ISLAMABAD: Aqeel Khan and Ushna Suhail scooped up men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the 3rd edition of the Serena Masters Cup here at the PTF/DA Tennis Complex.
Aqeel managed straight sets win over Barkatullah 6-3, 6-2 with Ushna also displaying quality tennis to dispose of Sheeza Sajid 6-4, 4-0 (rtd) to win the women’s title. The men’s doubles final could not take place due to inclement weather. The match was abandoned at 3-all, and both the teams, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi/Aqeel Khan and Shahzad Khan/M. Abid were declared the joint winners.
The Serena Masters Cup is part of Serena Hotels’ Sports Diplomacy Initiative, which aims to promote tennis and provide a platform for Pakistan’s top talent. The series has been held in Peshawar (December 2025), Faisalabad (February 2025), and Islamabad.
The Closing Ceremony of the event was attended by Syed Fahim Inam, Chief Marketing Officer Serena Hotels, as the chief guest, and Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi President-PTF as the guest of honour.
Other notable attendees included Major Suleman Junaid, SEVP-PTF, Suhail Khawaja, SVP-PTF, Saeed Ahmad Khan, SVP-PTF, Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail, Secretary General PTF, Imran Hassan, Serena Hotels, Col. Gul Rehman, Ms Sidra Zaheer, Serena Hotels, and a large number of players, parents, coaches, and media representatives.
Syed Fahim Inam, Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, and Col. Zia-ud-Din Tufail distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up, and congratulated them on their achievements. Aisam expressed heartfelt gratitude to Aziz Boolani, CEO of Serena Hotels, for his unwavering support and immense encouragement for Pakistan’s tennis players.
President PTF stated that Serena is playing a pivotal role in the growth of tennis in Pakistan, providing our players with world-class opportunities and exposure. “Their commitment to the sport is truly commendable, and we look forward to further collaborations in the future.”
Aisam hoped that in coming years the women tennis standard will further improve. “Soha Ali and Zunaisha Noor are participating in the ITF Juniors in Sri Lanka, where PTF arranged wildcards in collaboration with the Sri Lankan Tennis Association. Such an exposure will help women improve their game standard.”
Aisam also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of Robert Davis (ATP Coach) and Eduardo Lalovic (ATP Trainer), who conducted an intensive training camp in Islamabad in February 2025.
Aisamul Haq also thanked Asim Shafik Director of Development-PTF for his services during the one-month training Camp. Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi thanked Aziz Boolani, CEO Serena Hotels, for his continuous support and encouragement of tennis in Pakistan.
