Refugee challenge

Over the years, Pakistan has generously hosted millions of Afghan refugees, offering them shelter and opportunities. However, the increasing number of undocumented migrants is now creating significant social, economic and security challenges. There has been a rise in illegal settlements, unregulated labour and pressure on limited resources. Security concerns have also surfaced due to reports of criminal activities linked to some elements among the refugees. The burden on Pakistan’s healthcare, education, and employment sectors is also undeniable.

While humanitarian concerns must not be ignored, the government must implement stricter border control, regulate refugee status and ensure that only legal migrants reside in the country. A balanced approach is needed — one that safeguards Pakistan’s national interests while addressing the plight of refugees. I urge the authorities to take swift action to resolve this issue before it escalates further.
