PESHAWAR: Adviser to Chief Minister on Finance Muzzammil Aslam on Wednesday said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s claim of securing the last International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme had proven false.

In a handout, he recalled that Sharif had made this claim when Pakistan obtained the IMF programme in July 2024. However, today Pakistan secured another programme - a 28-month Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF) - in addition to the existing 37-month Extended Fund Facility (EFF) programme.

Aslam emphasized that the key point was that the first review had been completed, and a staff-level agreement achieved. He said that unfortunately, the government failed to secure any concessions for the common people. He added that no relief was provided in terms of tax reductions, real estate, or power tariffs, leaving the public to face the current deteriorating economic situation.
