PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Food Zahir Shah Toru on Wednesday criticised the federal government and the sugar mafia, blaming their poor policies for burdening the public.

“Incompetent uncle and niece’s flawed policies have turned sweet sugar bitter for the public,” said Zahir Shah Toru, referring to the ongoing sugar price-hike.The food minister alleged that the Shehbaz Sharif government and the sugar mafia deliberately exported sugar under a well-planned strategy, resulting in the sugar price hikes. “If there was insufficient sugar in the country, why was there a need to export it?” Toru questioned.

Shah termed the daily increase in sugar prices alarming and called it an act of hostility towards the public. “The continuous rise in prices is the outcome of collusion between the fake government and the sugar mafia,” he added.

Criticising the overall inflation crisis, the provincial minister stated that instead of providing relief, the government has unleashed a storm of price hikes. “All the claims of controlling sugar prices are mere eyewash, and the public is not getting any real relief,” he added.

The minister demanded a transparent investigation against those who exported sugar and are now profiting from the skyrocketing prices. “It is essential to identify who is benefiting from this price surge and who is behind this conspiracy,” he asserted.

Zahir Shah Toru emphasized that those responsible must be brought before the public. “Poor people are paying the price for Shahbaz government’s flawed policies,” he lamented.
