Police recover Rs34m looted from bank van in Peshawar

SSP Operations says driver Fazal Wahab and his accomplices had been planning heist for nearly a month

PESHAWAR: Police have arrested the robbers and recovered Rs34 million looted from a van carrying cash of Bank of Punjab in Hashtnagri.

“The robbers were arrested along with the driver of the van and over Rs34 million looted was recovered within eight hours,” SSP Operations Masood Bangash told a press conference. He said driver Fazal Wahab and his accomplices had been planning the heist for nearly a month. The van carrying cash of Bank of Punjab was looted in the limits of Hashtnagri Police Station on Monday.During interrogation, the SSP said, the driver’s conflicting statements raised suspicion. Eventually, he confessed to being part of the robbery and disclosed his accomplices, including one of his relatives. Police conducted raids in Tehkal and arrested Umar, followed by arrest of Faheem and Farid from the same locality,” said Bangash. He said police recovered over Rs34m along with the vehicle.
