The Sindh government will take every possible step to protect the rights of its people, said Mustafa Abdullah Baloch, spokesperson for the Sindh government, in a statement on Thursday.
He said Sindh faces severe water shortages, with the ongoing crisis affecting the province. He said the government had strongly opposed the construction of six new ccanals, expressing concerns over the potential exacerbation of water scarcity in the province.
The annual water shortage in the Indus River is worsening, the spokesperson said and noted that the water scarcity in the Indus River increases each year, putting further strain on Sindh’s water resources.
The construction of more canals could further decrease Sindh’s water share, Baloch warned and emphasized that additional canals would negatively impact the province’s agricultural productivity due to reduced water availability.
