ISLAMABAD: Sir John Marshal, one of the founding fathers of British archaeology in the Subcontinent and discoverer of the cradle of historic human civilizations of the Indus Valley, remembered at Taxila for his indelible contributions.
The research facility of Gandhara Resource Centre Pakistan (GRCP) in Taxila held a seminar to mark the 145th birthday of Sir John Marshall. A ceremony was held in Taxila Museum, to pay tribute to Sir John Marshall on his birth anniversary. The event was attended by archaeologists, historians, scholars, heritage enthusiasts, representatives of civil society, students, and researchers. It was jointly organised by the GRCP, the Directorate General of Archaeology Punjab/Taxila Museum, and Taxila Baithak.
The ceremony commenced by Humaira Naz, Deputy Director (SRO) Taxila Museum, who highlighted the contributions of Sir John Marshall. She acknowledged that his efforts led to the establishment of modern archaeology in South Asia. His dedicated work not only introduced the ancient Gandhara civilization to the world but also played a crucial role in preserving historic cities like Mohenjo-daro and Harappa.
