PAC organises calligraphy exhibition of Azeem Iqbal

Rawalpindi : Punjab Arts Council Rawalpindi organized a remarkable exhibition showcasing the artwork of renowned painter and calligrapher Azeem Iqbal in connection with the blessed month of Ramadan.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Member National Assembly Malik Abrar Ahmed. Former Director Waqar Ahmed, Naheed Manzoor, Director Sajjad Hussain, and Deputy Director Muhammad Shakoor were also present on this occasion.

Speaking at the event, the chief guest, Malik Abrar Ahmed, stated that an exhibition of calligraphy based on Islamic culture and civilisation is a commendable initiative that not only promotes art but also encourages artists. He further emphasized that there is no shortage of talent in our country; however, it is essential to provide opportunities to skilled individuals from all fields so they can further enhance their abilities.

Azeem Iqbal while talking to The News said that through this Exhibition I have encompassed various era of calligraphy of Ahed e Nabvi where calligraphy was done in 6 different materials like leather, limestones, stone, bones and on clothes. The calligraphy style is Kufic style, and Khairi style. He has made a collage of the calligraphic era which was the 'Golden Era of Prophey Mohammad' in this exhibition. He claims to be the only artist echo has worked in this way.

He has made different collages encompassing Islamic Heritage and Islamic Architecture. "I am honoured to say that my 600 to 700 painting have been sent to international dignitaries. Both nationally and internationally my painting have been showcase in various art museums,” he said.

Former Director of Punjab Arts Council, Waqar Ahmed also expressed his views, stating that such exhibitions provide a platform for young artists to refine their skills. Prominent cultural figure Naheed Manzoor, who also attended the event, remarked that the promotion of Islamic arts is crucial for the preservation of our cultural heritage, and the Punjab Arts Council is rendering excellent services in this regard.

Punjab Arts Council Director Rawalpindi Sajjad Hussain, highlighted that the Arts Council is making every effort to promote young talent. He stated that currently, the council is conducting more than thirty classes where various arts are being taught. Azeem Iqbal’s calligraphy exhibition has previously been displayed at the Pakistan National Council of Arts, Lok Virsa, National Book Foundation, Allama Iqbal Open University, Quaid-e-Azam University, and various embassies, where his work has been highly appreciated. Renowned calligraphers Khawaja Muhammad Hussain, Ghulam Muhammad Zuberi, and other artists praised Azeem Iqbal’s work, stating that his art beautifully reflects Islamic culture and serves as an inspiration for the younger generation. Among the distinguished personalities attending the exhibition were Dr. Kamran Jahangir, Managing Director of National Book Foundation, Dr. Jalal Ahmed, well-known poet Anjum Saleemi, civil officers, women, and a large number of individuals associated with fine arts.

The event concluded with a special prayer for the security of the nation, goodwill, the eradication of terrorism, and national unity. This exhibition will continue for ten days, providing the public with an opportunity to view these magnificent artworks.
