LAHORE : Body of a newborn girl was discovered in Johar Town’s Ayub Chowk area, prompting police to launch an investigation and search for an unidentified woman believed to be the child’s mother. According to a spokesperson for the Edhi Foundation, local residents alerted authorities after spotting the infant’s body near Ayub Chowk. Police arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and transferred it to morgue. Initial reports suggest the baby was only a few hours old at the time of her death.

Robbers’ gang busted

Defence B police Wednesday arrested four members of a robber gang, including two women. According to a press conference addressed by ASP Defence Shehr Bano Naqvi, four robbers were arrested and cash, gold jewellery, and weapons were recovered from them. The ASP said the gangsters were involved in over 80 cases of robbery and theft across the city. The police recovered Rs1.2 million, stolen gold jewellery, two motorcycles and two pistols from accused identified as Usman, M Nawaz, Shagufta, and Sahar.

6,478 POs arrested

Police have arrested 6,478 proclaimed offenders and 2,305 target offenders in various operations this year, as part of their efforts to combat crime in the city. This was stated by a spokesman for Lahore police in a statement issued here on Wednesday. The breakdown shows that 1,476 proclaimed offenders were apprehended from the Cantt Division, 573 from Civil Lines, 1,312 from the City Division, 1,254 from Iqbal Town, 878 from Sadar and 985 from Model Town, the spokesman said. Additionally, 347 target offenders were arrested in Cantt Division, 198 in Civil Lines, 681 in the City Division, 587 in Iqbal Town, 256 in Sadar and 236 in Model Town, he added. Meanwhile, CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana added that the crackdown against criminals was continuous with no discrimination. The human intelligence and advanced technology were being employed to apprehend the culprits. The CCPO also directed the divisional officers to oversee targeted operations to arrest criminals involved in heinous cases and emphasized that the use of software like Smart Eye and Hotel Eye should be fully exploited to ensure the arrest of wanted criminals.
