LAHORE : In a move to enhance digital connectivity, the Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has expanded its free Wi-Fi service in Lahore, increasing the number of locations from 200 to 230.
The service has also been upgraded to the advanced Wi-Fi 6 technology, promising faster and more reliable internet access for users. The initiative, part of the Punjab government’s broader vision to transform the province into a digital hub, aims to provide seamless internet access to citizens, particularly for emergency services and essential tasks. According to a spokesperson for the PSCA, the upgraded technology will significantly improve internet speed, enabling users to stay connected more efficiently.
Currently, the free Wi-Fi service is operational at 300 locations across 11 districts in Punjab, including Lahore, Kasur, Nankana Sahib, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Gujrat, Jhelum, Attock, Sahiwal, Okara, and Murree. The spokesperson revealed that the service will soon be expanded to cover the entire province, ensuring broader access to high-speed internet. Since its launch, the free Wi-Fi service has seen overwhelming public response, with over 17.70 million users consuming 438 terabytes of data. PSCA clarified that the service is primarily intended for emergency purposes and essential tasks, and not for video streaming or entertainment. Citizens have been urged to use the facility responsibly to simplify their daily lives.
