Online scams involving fake identities have become a significant concern in Pakistan, targeting individuals and organisations alike. These scams involve impersonation, fraudulent activities that lead to financial losses. These scams are done in several ways. Scammers send fraudulent emails or messages to trick individuals into revealing sensitive information. In Pakistan, there has been a surge in such scams. Fraudsters create fake profiles of individuals to deceive others. From 2021 to 2023, approximately 386,602 complaints were lodged regarding digital offenses in Pakistan.
Some ways in which you can protect yourself from these frauds are being mindful and not sharing your sensitive information such as CNIC number, bank information or passwords with unverified sources. The rise in such activities necessitates awareness and vigilance. By recognising these tactics one can protect their personal information and can protect others by reporting suspicious activities.
