A tragic incident occurred in Afghan Basti near Al-Asif Square in the Sohrab Goth area where an unidentified armed assailant broke into a house and fatally shot a man and his wife dead before fleeing the scene.

The victims, identified as 52-year-old Azam, son of Haji Abdul Ghaffoor, and 36-year-old Gul Bibi, were originally from Afghanistan. Their bodies were taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital on Wednesday morning.

According to the Sohrab Goth police, Azam was a labourer working at a garments factory. Initial investigations suggested that the couple was shot in the head at close range, indicating a targeted attack possibly linked to personal enmity.

Police have collected evidence from the crime scene and are exploring different angles in the case. Azam’s brother Abdul Hashim spoke to the media at the hospital, revealing that the shooting occurred at around 3am. He added that a young child present in the house saw a single gunman enter and open fire on his parents before escaping. He further disclosed that Azam had two wives—one living in Afghanistan with five children, while he resided in Karachi’s Afghan Basti with his second wife and their five children. Police said they were trying to identify the suspect and determine the motive behind the killings.
