LAHORE:An awareness seminar on harassment-free safe workplace for women was organised here at King Edward Medical University (KEMU), Lahore.
Provincial Ombudsperson Punjab Nabila Hakim Ali was the chief guest, while Vice -Chancellor Prof Mahmood Ayaz, Pro Vice Chancellor Prof Muhammad Moin, Registrar Prof Muhammad Imran, Prof Nadia Khurshid, Prof Zara Ishrat, Prof Mehrunnisa, Prof Ali Madhi Hashmi, Prof Anila Asghar, Prof Muneeb Ashraf, Prof Zahida Rani and others attended the seminar.
Senior journalist Wasif Nagi also spoke on the occasion.
Prof Mahmood Ayaz thanked Provincial Ombudsperson Punjab for gracing the seminar with her presence. He said that there are many types of harassment during work in the institutions but nowadays cyber harassment is very common. According to the instructions of HEC and the Provincial Ombudsman Punjab, all the principles of women's safety are adhered to here at KEMU. Islam has also taught us women's rights and justice. All the rights of a woman are mentioned in our holy book Quran. He added that the university has a large number of women faculty and students who are being provided with a favourable educational environment in every way.
Provincial Ombudsperson Punjab Nabila Hakim Ali emphasised the need to create awareness and inform people about women's rights and safety. She discussed the workplace challenges, anti-harassment act, process of inquiry, complaint procedures, responsibilities of the institutions and competent authority, punishment, responsibilities of employees and management, and other initiatives. At the end of the ceremony, Pro-VC Prof Moin lauded the seminar and thanked all the participants.
