Aamir Khan is finally sharing his unfiltered thoughts on South-Indian films, drawing parallels between Bollywood and Southern cinema.
During an exclusive one-on-one with Indian media, the Dangal actor explained the differences between the two industries.
The actor didn’t hesitate to describe the approach of filmmaking in both Bollywood and the South Indian industry as he credited South for focusing more on conviction like anger, love, and revenge.
He said, “We’re not focusing on the broader strokes like anger, love, and revenge. We should make films on conviction (like the South does). South films are what we used to call single-screen films- very mass, very rooted. Maybe Bollywood is focusing more on multiplex films.”
Addressing the Hindi film industry's challenges, Aamir noted that films can't be sold twice. To promote cinema viewing, he advocated for a 4-5 month gap between theatrical releases and OTT platform availability.
He further went on to add, “Earlier, I used to watch movies because I had no option. Now, it’s dependent on a fancy for films. So we’ve killed our own business model.”
Javed Akhtar, seated next to the world-class actor, agreed with Aamir's point.
He stated, “The sooner we understand this, the better. Otherwise, we’ll have to sell even our bicycles.”
On professional front, Aamir is currently gearing up for his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, which is slated to release in December 2025.
