PESHAWAR: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur on Friday announced the renaming of South Waziristan Upper as Mahsud Waziristan district and the creation of a new subdivision, increasing the total to three.
Addressing the annual Talent Award ceremony organised by the Mahsud Welfare Association, he also approved an additional subdivision for Ladha, the largest in terms of area and population, and granted Kaniguram the status of a tehsil.
The chief minister made the announcement after resolutions passed in the Senate and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, moved by Senator Dost Muhammad Khan Mahsud and MPA Asif Khan Mahsud. The chief minister said the restructuring was aimed at improving governance and administrative efficiency in the region.
Gandapur also pledged Rs20 million in annual funding for the Mahsud Welfare Association to support education for orphans and the rehabilitation of widows and displaced persons. “The Mahsud community has always played a vital role in the region’s progress, and their development remains a priority,” he said, also announcing the revival of Mawa Education City.
The event was attended by Senator Dost Muhammad Khan, MNA Zubair Wazir, provincial ministers, MPAs Ajab Gul and Usman Bhittani, senior government officials, and a large number of tribal elders.
