ISLAMABAD: With less than two weeks left in the expiry of five-year term of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders in the Senate and National Assembly have written letters to the Senate chairman and NA speaker for the appointment of a new CEC.
Leader of the Opposition in the Senate Shibli Faraz wrote a letter to Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani on the issue of appointing a new chief election commissioner, as well as members in Sindh and Balochistan provinces.
He called for the formation of a parliamentary committee to initiate the process for the appointment of a new CEC. In the letter, he also cited Article 213 about the committee.
Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Omar Ayub wrote to NA Speaker Ayaz Sadiq for the formation of a parliamentary committee to start the process for new appointments.
Two members of the electoral body, presenting Balochistan and Sindh, are also completing their term on the same date.
These sessions will be conducted during CSA’s lean training periods
