MANSEHRA: Residents on Wednesday demanded the federal government to ensure the supply of natural gas to Oghi, Shergarh and adjoining localities.

“The pipelines from Mansehra to Shergarh and Oghi were laid about three years ago, but despite spending over Rs9 billion on this project, we are still without natural gas supply,” Saifur Rehman, a resident, told reporters in Oghi.

A group of residents from various parts of Oghi and Shergarh said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had inaugurated the natural gas supply to Oghi and Shergarh in Mansehra nearly three years ago, yet people were still without this facility.

“This project was approved by the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMLN) government, and local MNA Captain (retd) Mohammad Safdar inaugurated the pipeline almost nine years ago, but the project remains useless,” Saifur Rehman said.

Another local, Mian Saidur Rehman mentioned that the residents of the widely stretched Agror and Tanawal areas rely on firewood from local forests.

“If the government wants to protect the forests for future generations, it should ensure the timely supply of natural gas to Oghi and Shergar,” he added.

Rehman added that roads in Shergar have yet to be repaired years after the natural gas supply pipelines were laid, and the gas supply was still unavailable.
