During the launching ceremony of a new plastic recycling app here on Wednesday, he said, ‘The plastic waste around us is like a haunting nightmare’.

Addressing the event as a chief guest, the speaker highlighted the alarming issue of plastic waste and commended the 'Suthra Punjab’ programme as a much-needed step to address environmental challenges.

He highlighted the dire state of municipal services in the province, saying, ’Our villages and towns are living in humiliating conditions, deprived of basic municipal facilities’.

The newly-launched plastic app focuses on the recycling and sustainable use of plastic materials.

The speaker encouraged integrating the app with the Punjab government’s 'Suthra Punjab' programme to maximise its impact, praising the initiative as a remarkable effort by the government to promote sustainable development.

I have always been in favour of a complete ban on plastic bags. Plastic bags were visible everywhere, posing a significant problem across all sectors of life, he added. —APP
