KARACHI: Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC), Pakistan’s largest exploration and production (E&P) firm, has commenced oil and gas production from its Kharo-1 well in Khairpur, Sindh, the company disclosed in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday.
Kharo-1 is currently producing 20 barrels per day (bpd) of oil and five million standard cubic feet per day (mmscfd) of gas, according to OGDC. The production has been connected to the OGDC Sinjhoro Processing Plant via a 6”-12.5 km flow line, with gas seamlessly integrated into the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) network.
OGDC holds a 95 per cent working interest in the Khewari Block, with the remaining 5.0 per cent owned by Government Holding Private Limited (GHPL).
“This achievement underscores OGDCL’s commitment to operational excellence and its pivotal role in strengthening Pakistan’s energy landscape,” the company stated.
The Kharo-1 milestone follows the company’s recent success at Kunnar West Well-3 in Hyderabad district, Sindh, where production began last month.
As Pakistan’s largest E&P company, OGDC commands the most extensive exploration acreage in the country, covering over 40 per cent of the total awarded acreage. Its operations span exploration, drilling, reservoir management, production, and engineering services, contributing significantly to the country’s energy supply.
The government of Pakistan holds a majority stake of over 67 per cent in OGDC, followed by the OGDC Employee Empowerment Trust and the Privatisation Commission of Pakistan.
