The people of Parachinar have been suffering greatly due to shortage of food and essential supplies. More than 130 innocent children have died there due to lack of medicine and basic needs.
These views were expressed by the Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen chief, Senator Allama Raja Nasir Abbas Jafari, during a press conference at the Pak Moharram Hall on Thursday. A true Muslim was one who felt pain upon witnessing oppression, he said.
He stated that the situation in Parachinar was being deliberately worsened.
"We condemn the state oppression against sit-ins held in Karachi in solidarity with the oppressed people of Parachinar. The Pakistan Peoples Party [PPP], which claims to be the champion of democracy, has revealed its true nature to the nation.
By attacking unarmed citizens, the Sindh government has trampled on the democratic values and ideals of their leader, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto," he said. The MWM chief maintained that the Shia and Sunni communities in Kurram had never desired conflict." A peace agreement has been reached in Parachinar with the consent of both sides, and now it is the government’s responsibility to implement it. All resources must be utilised to ensure lasting peace in Kurram.”
He said conspiracies had been hatched up to block the Tall-Parachinar road under various pretexts. He also condemned the attacks on government officials in Kurram district, including firing at the Kurram deputy commissioner and FC personnel. Ambush attacks by terrorists showed their unwillingness for peace, Jafari said.
He appealed to the people of Kurram to socially boycott those elements creating obstacles to peace. He asserted that holding peaceful protests was a constitutional and legal right, and saluted the participants of the sit-ins that were held in solidarity with the people of Parachinar, both within and outside the country.
Sit-ins were held even in the harshest weather in Gilgit-Baltistan, he said, adding that it should be a moment of reflection for the PPP government that it had shed the blood of the oppressed.
The PPP would have to pay the political price for its fascism, he said asking Bilawal Bhutto Zardari to take notice of what he termed brutality in Sindh. He also demanded that the cases against peaceful MWM protesters who participated in the Karachi sit-ins be withdrawn, and innocent detained persons be released.
"I salute the patience, courage, and bravery of the patriotic Pakistanis participating in the ongoing sit-ins in Parachinar. I thank human rights organisations and the media for their support," he said.
The press conference was also attended by Allama Hasan Zafar Naqvi, Allama Baqir Abbas Zaidi, Allama Sadiq Jafari, Allama Mukhtar Imami, Allama Mubashir Hasan, Maulana Ishaq Qaraiti, Malik Ghulam Abbas, Nasser Hussaini and others.
