Road blocked against arrest of social worker in Landikotal

LANDIKOTAL: Hundreds of residents, social activists and political parties’ workers blocked Pak-Afghan highway at Landikotal bypass to record their protest against the illegal arrest and alleged torture of a social worker on Thursday.

The protesters, led by Tanzeem Naujawanan-i- Qabail president Israr Afridi, were holding placards inscribed with slogans against the arrest of social worker Sawab Noor Shinwari. Pashtun Tahafuz Movement( PTM) Khyber coordinator Aftab Shinwari Pashteen, Landikotal mayor Shah Khalid Shinwari, Bazaar traders union president Yad Wazeer Shinwari and others spoke on the occasion.

They demanded inquiry into the illegal arrest and torture of the social activist. Additional Assistant Commissioner Rameez Khan, Tehsildar Landikotal Taimur Khan Afridi and other officials held talks with the protesters but did not succeed to convince them.

Long queues of loaded and empty trucks and passenger coaches were parked on the road side. Meanwhile, the Landikotal traders’ union president gave a complete shutdown call for Friday to force the police highups to take notice of the incident.

Talking to the media, Landikotal mayor Shah Khalid Shinwari and Landikotal traders’ union president, Yad Wazeer Shinwari, said that their protest would continue till the acceptance of their demand.
