This refers to the letter ‘Digital hypocrisy’ (December 27, 2024) by Dr Irfan Zafar. Bilawal Bhutto has taken exception to the dangers of cyberspace on principled grounds. Unless decision-makers do not weigh the negative implications of technological restrictions against the short-term benefits, the situation will not improve.
In the long term, the limits would adversely affect exports and the economy. Unfortunately, those spreading misinformation find new ways to misuse digital platforms using alternate technological tools. The government could deal with this challenge by keeping up with the latest technology.
