ISLAMABAD: While expressing keen interest in studying Pakistan’s judicial system and interacting with the vibrant legal community of Pakistan, Bangladesh Chief Justice Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed expressed interest in visiting Pakistan at the earliest.
The BD Chief Justice was talking to members of the 35-lawyers group, hailing from various bars of Pakistan, in Supreme Court Dhaka the other day. The delegation led by Senator Hamid Khan conveyed good wishes from the legal fraternity of Pakistan to the honourable CJ of the brotherly country.
The latter also conveyed greetings to his counterpart in Pakistan Justice Yahya Afridi.
Talking to The News here in Parliament House Wednesday, Senator Hamid Khan said that he was delighted to see the enthusiasm for Pakistan in several meetings with the lawyers of that country who enjoy remarkable command over law, jurisprudence and contemporary history. It is high time to repair and strengthen the ties with Bangladesh. Hamid Khan was of the view that at the moment Bangladesh is without a working constitution and Parliament and the country is passing through a phase of stability.
Senator Hamid said that he had been visiting Bangladesh in recent years but the amount of goodwill prevailing for Pakistan today is unprecedented. The relevant authorities here should avail the opportunity. He also warned that the elements out to harm the relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh shouldn’t be allowed to succeed in their design. Hamid Khan said that the government should pay special emphasis on scheduling regular daily flights between Pakistan and Bangladesh which would play a greater role in enhancing the ties.
In the meanwhile sources hinted that the honourable Chief Justice of Pakistan would extend an invitation to his Bangladesh counterpart in a couple of days for visiting Pakistan. In that event it would be the first high-echelon visit to Pakistan from Bangladesh after the establishment of Dr Muhammad Yunus-led government in Bangladesh, the sources said.
