Special Assistant to Sindh Chief Minister for Food Abdul Jabbar Khan on Wednesday announced that the Sindh government had decided to take legal action by filing immediate FIRs against officials involved in wheat theft, corruption, and those facilitating such activities.
Khan made the statement following a surprise visit to the wheat warehouses in Landhi and Papri. Expressing disappointment over the poor condition of the facilities, which lacked repairs, maintenance, and cleaning, he emphasised the need to bring in reputable officers to ensure proper oversight of the warehouses.
“Under the vision of Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, the Food Department will be transformed into a corruption-free institution,” Khan stated. He further addressed the recent wheat theft incident in Qamber Shahdad Kot, confirming that an FIR would be registered against the involved officials and their facilitators. “Action will be taken as per the law,” he said, adding that a committee had been formed to investigate the wheat theft.
During the visit, Director Food Sindh Muhammad Hussain Baloch, Deputy Director Saeedullah Narejo, and other officials briefed Khan on the storage and fumigation processes. Fumigation is carried out three times a year to protect the wheat from pests.
Khan conducted a thorough inspection of the godowns and personally checked their condition. He directed the use of vacant land at the Landhi godown for future expansion and ordered the preparation of a PC1 to establish additional godowns. This, he said, would eliminate the need to rent warehouses in the future.
