Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab on Wednesday inaugurated newly constructed roads, sewerage systems and footpaths in Nazimabad No 4, Nazimabad No 2 and Gharibabad.
He announced that 2025 will be the year of development projects in Karachi stating that ongoing development work would demonstrate the city’s progress. He criticised those who broke water lines but assured that his administration was laying new water lines. Development schemes worth Rs250 million had been completed in District Central, he said adding that he prioritised solving Karachi’s problems.
The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) focused on projects that benefitted the public, the mayor remarked. Under the PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto’s leadership, Karachi’s journey of improvement and development would continue, he added.
Wahab expressed the hope that the prime minister would announce development projects worth billions of rupees during his Karachi visit. He called for taking steps to alleviate load-shedding and make life easier for residents.
He was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, Deputy Parliamentary Leader of the City Council Dil Mohammad, Jumman Darwan, Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) Director-General of Engineering Tariq Mughal and other officials.
He maintained that he and the deputy mayor along with the KMC staff were actively working in District Central. The KMC had completed road carpeting and installed pure blocks and tough tiles at several locations, he said, adding that residents had supported the PPP in the local by-elections. Despite the PPP not controlling any of District Central’s five towns, Wahab said, addressing Karachi’s issues was his duty. He stated that his administration had repaired roads from Liaquatabad to Teen Hatti, improved the sewage system and installed pure blocks at multiple sites.
He highlighted ongoing projects such as Shahrah-e-Noor Jahan and Sangam Ground, emphasising that the Sangam Ground was being developed for the community's benefit, not for political gain.
