PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar and the DAI Fleming Fund Country Grant Pakistan on Wednesday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to join hands in the fight against Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
A press release said that this collaboration marked advancement in the public health efforts in the province.The MoU was aimed at enhancing AMR surveillance capacities, which are crucial for effectively managing and mitigating AMR’s impact.
The MoU will build KMU’s capacity to provide substantial support in laboratory training for antimicrobial stewardship and the establishment and maintenance of a biorepository/biobank equipped with technical assistance and IT solutions.The press release said that the support was aimed at bolstering KMU’s capabilities in addressing AMR.
KMU Vice-Chancellor Dr Ziaul Haq and Dr Yasar Mehmood Yousafzai, Director of the Public Health Reference Laboratory at KMU, represented the institution at the signing ceremony.The Fleming Fund Country Grant Technical Advisor Dr Fayaz Ahmad and Ghulam Farooq Khan, Provincial Lead of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, were present on the occasion.
