KARACHI: The inspector general of the Sindh police has agreed to a request from the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) to appoint a focal person from the business community to address law and order issues, ensuring the facilitation and protection of economic activities and investments in the province.
According to an FPCCI statement released on Saturday, IG Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon visited the FPCCI’s head office at the Federation House, Karachi, accompanied by top officers from the force. The purpose of the visit was to strengthen ties with the business community, provide them with a sense of security, and address their concerns regarding law and order.
Nabi Memon informed the gathering of business and industry leaders that crime in the city is on the decline. Fatal or injury-related street crimes and robberies have decreased from an average of 2.5 incidents per day in January 2024 to fewer than one per day in September 2024.
He invited the FPCCI president and his delegation to the police headquarters to present them with crime statistics, showcase technology adoption measures, and explore avenues for cooperation between the police and the business community.
President of the FPCCI Atif Ikram Sheikh emphasized the need to expedite the Safe City project for Karachi to address the pressing issue of street crimes and to elevate Karachi to the standards of other economically significant cities around the world, where both domestic and international investors feel secure in establishing industries.
