IGP Memon graced the occasion as chief guest and upon his arrival the commandant SBBEPTC and other officers welcomed him. A contingent of police saluted him. The IGP inspected the march past and parade and congratulated police personnel on the successful completion of the training. He said the passing out jawans are an example of excellent and quality training by the police and he is glad to have two batches of Eaglet passed out.

Addressing passing out officials, he said: “You were selected on merit and due to good training, you became a part of Sindh Police and I am sure you will abide by today’s oath by joining your unit.”

He added that the importance of security increases in the context of police rules and law and order situation. Security becomes a very important factor when it comes to business activities, travel and tourism, he said, adding that the government of Sindh has “entrusted you with the responsibility of security as a uniform disciplined force and I hope you fulfil your responsibilities in the best way possible”.

The IGP said citizens and media appreciate their work whenever the police have done their best, and the people criticize “you for your poor performance in terms of law and order situation and criticism is made because people expect from us”.

Memon further said that the government of Sindh also easily approves his proposed projects on the basis of the performance of police personnel. “It is your performance that the Sindh government has made the mess free in all police training centres. The Sindh government is bearing the expenses of Rs400 million for the food and drink of the trainees.”

The police department is the first institution in the Sindh province whose health insurance scheme for its employees and their families has been approved by the government, and under the Health Insurance Scheme, every officer and employee of the police will be able to get treatment of himself and his family from any standard hospital up to one million rupees.

“We are martyred and injured along the line of duty,” the IGP said and added that the government has increased the Shaheed package, which used to be Rs10 million earlier, to Rs23 million. This is the basic package for the martyr, but on the martyrdom of a senior officer, this amount is up to seven crore rupees. “Shaheed package, health insurance, your salary, your welfare, upgradation of police hospitals and other measures are being taken not only for your welfare but also for the betterment of public service delivery.”

Memon further said, “I am confident that each of my soldiers will work hard and live up to the expectations of the people and our main unit is the police station. If we do a better job at the police station, then the government and the police department will have goodwill and the morale of the criminals will be low.”

He added that our agenda for the next phase is to improve service delivery of police stations and he had talked to the Sindh government to make the police stations autonomous and allocate a budget, on which a budget of Rs0.5 million was given directly to the police stations and the SHOs were also empowered to use the budget. Moreover, he asked the police to perform their security duties properly in the police stations and become the centre of hope of the people and the government.
