Efforts being made to bring German hockey teams to Pakistan

LAHORE: Pakistan is ramping up efforts to bring German hockey teams and clubs to the country, in a bid to revive international hockey activities. This initiative was highlighted during a visit by Jean Gerald, Head of Communication, Cultural Affairs, and Protocol at the German Embassy, to the National Hockey Stadium in Islamabad.

Sports Board Punjab and Khawaja Junaid Hockey Academy have announced hosting German hockey team for a series of hockey matches in February next year. The visit was organised by Khawaja Junaid, focal person for the Prime Minister’s Youth Program for Sports, and Junaid Chatha, CEO of What’s Goal.

Olympian Khawaja Junaid, Junaid Chatha, and DG Sports Punjab Parvez Iqbal briefed the German Embassy official about the arrangements. Jean Gerald emphasised the deep hockey ties between Germany and Pakistan, and acknowledged Pakistan’s significant position in the sport.

Khawaja Junaid stated that a dedicated team, including Ajmal Khan Lodhi, Junaid Chatha, Chaudhry Parvez Sindhila, and Yousuf Anjum, is working to bring international hockey activities back to Pakistan.
