The Sindh excise, taxation and narcotics control department has launched Pakistan's first online auction for premium number plates. Officials said Sindh Senior Minister for Transport, and Excise & Taxation Sharjeel Inam Memon announced on social media that premium number plates would be auctioned in platinum, gold and silver categories to raise funds for housing projects for flood victims.
All proceeds from the auction would be donated to the Sindh People's Housing Project to support those affected by the floods. “This is an important step by the Government of Sindh in its journey toward modern public service. Citizens can register themselves and participate in the online auction to win exclusive number plates while contributing to a worthy cause,” reads a statement issued by Memon.
He mentioned that participants could register for the auction through the official website, premiumnumber.excise.gos.pk. They could also join by downloading the excise department app. The auction would continue for three days following the registration.
Drug dealers arrested
Moreover, the narcotics control department team has arrested five drug dealers, including a group of four, in two separate operations in Karachi. A excise and narcotics control team in Malir led by Excise Inspector Muhammad Zubair Lakho conducted a major operation resulting in the arrest of a notorious drug-peddling gang within the Gharibabad area within the jurisdiction of the Malir City Police Station.
Five mobile units of the team participated in the operation, during which four notorious drug dealers, including two women, were apprehended. The arrested individuals were identified as Munira, alias Fiza, Aziza, alias Chili, Amjad and Gul Sher, alias Gudu.
Excise officials reported that during the operation, the accused were caught in the act of packing heroin. A total of 506 grams of heroin, divided into small bags, was recovered from their possession.
The officials further stated that the arrested drug dealers had been involved in multiple drug cases registered at the Malir City Police Station. During the initial investigation, the accused revealed information about other associates within their group. A case has been registered against the suspects, and further investigations are under way.
In another operation near Dua Hotel on Mauripur Road, an excise and narcotics control team arrested an alleged drug dealer, Ghulam Abbas, son of Qurban Ali. A total of 510 grammes of ice (methamphetamine) was recovered from the accused. A case was registered against the suspect under the Anti-Narcotics Act.
