Key suspect in retired major’s kidnap case arrested

The key suspect allegedly involved in the kidnapping for ransom of retired major Ahmed Waseem was arrested in Karachi on Wednesday.

According to a spokesperson for the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), the suspect, identified as Noorul Ain, was apprehended during a joint operation with the federal intelligence agency and the Citizens-Police Liaison Committee (CPLC).

The spokesperson stated that Noorul Ain, along with his accomplices, kidnapped Major Waseem on September 28, 2024, from Khayaban-e-Seher near Bilal Masjid in Phase VII, DHA. The kidnappers demanded a ransom of 200 million rupees and gold biscuits from the victim’s family.

A case was registered under sections 365A/34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) at the Gizri police station. The investigation had been handed over to the AVCC.

On September 29, 2024, AVCC police, in coordination with the CPLC and intelligence agencies, conducted a raid in the Nazimabad area, rescuing Major Waseem. However, the kidnappers managed to escape. The criminal record of the arrested suspect is currently being examined, and further investigations are ongoing, with more developments expected, according to the spokesperson.
