LHC seeks report on Zain Qureshi’s arrest from Parliament House

He further remarked that the MNA’s arrest from the premises of parliament was an illegal act

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad High Court (IHC), hearing a case pertaining to the arrest of Zain Qureshi, MNA, from the Parliament House, on Tuesday directed the state counsel to see rules and file a report within a week.Chief Justice (CJ) IHC Aamer Farooq remarked that the IG and chief commissioner will tell the court how the police entered the Parliament House. He further remarked that the MNA’s arrest from the premises of parliament was an illegal act.

“Why was he arrested this way? What was the legal way? There are privileges and rules of parliament on making arrest from parliament which will have to be seen,” he said.

Barrister Taimoor Malik and Faeza Malik represented Zain Qureshi. Taimoor Malik argued that as per rules, no one could be arrested from the limits of the National Assembly. No one can be arrested from inside parliament without the speaker’s permission, he added. The hearing was adjourned till October 16.
