MANSEHRA: The Hydro workers’ union on Tuesday demanded the government annex the Kohistan region with the newly created Hazara Electric Supply Company (Hazeco) or else they would initiate a street agitation against it.

“The Hazesco has formally launched operations but without Upper Kohistan, Lower Kohistan and Kolai-Palas, which is unacceptable to us. The three districts should immediately be annexed in it according to the announcement of the prime minister,” Jamil Akhtar Tanoli, the chairman of the Hydro workers’ union of Hazesco, told reporters here.

He said that the people and hydro workers’ union had struggled for decades for the creation of Hazesco and its board of directors had started operations in Abbottabad and Mansehra circles, which also includes Haripur, Battagram and Torghar districts.

“Kohistan region is part of Hazara Division and we would never allow anybody to exclude it from Hazesco at any cost,” Tanoli said. “We want relief in fuel adjustments as electricity is produced through water and employment for residents and if Kohistan region is executed its people would also be deprived of those financial benefits and advantages,” Tanoli said.
