KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari said on Monday that appointments to the higher judiciary are in the hands of judges who, due to political reasons, are not even willing to communicate with one another.

He criticised the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), accusing it of engaging in opposition for the sake of opposition. He said their (PTI leaders’) aim is to see Pakistan fail, and they want to keep the country in such disarray that they can politically benefit from the situation.

The PTI, according to Bilawal, consistently tries to make every post controversial, and the attack on Justice Qazi Faez Isa did not begin today.

Speaking on Geo News programme “Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Saath,”, the PPP chairman said that before proposing constitutional amendments, there was an understanding that the government had the support of Maulana Fazlur Rehman. However, when the draft was presented before the committee, it became evident that there was a significant difference between Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s stance and the government’s position.

Addressing those who are objecting to the timing of the constitutional amendments, Bilawal questioned, “If not now, when will this work be done?” He dismissed the notion of rushing the process, asserting that those talking of haste think that they can sabotage the constitution-making process being undertaken by us.

He said that as soon as they secure a two-thirds majority, they will present the amendments to parliament, whether that is tomorrow or the day after. “The sooner we pass this piece of legislation, the better,” he added.

Bilawal also shared that they are currently in contact with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who is in communication with the PTI. He made it clear that if PTI members contact PPP members like Khursheed Shah or Naveed Qamar in the committee formed for constitutional amendments, he would not stop them.
