LAHORE:Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has said that the scope of Safe Cities will be expanded to 140 tehsils in Punjab. Smart Safe Cities will be operational in 18 cities of Punjab by Dec 31 and throughout the province by June 30 next year.
IG Punjab expressed these thoughts during a ceremony at the Central Police Office on Monday, where he addressed the 55 newly promoted officers from Sub-Inspector to the rank of Inspector.
According to the details, IG Punjab along with senior officers, presented the Inspector ranks to the promoted officers. Families of all officers including parents, children, and other family members of the newly promoted inspectors attended the ceremony. The promoted officers hailed from Rawalpindi, Sargodha, Bahawalpur, Gujranwala, and Gujrat.
Dr Usman Anwar said that the Punjab Police will never allow terrorists, outlaws, and those who deviate from the Constitution to succeed. IG Punjab vowed that we will account for the blood of police martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the country and the nation. IG Punjab said that Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has increased the amount for the purchase of homes for police martyrs to Rs5 million per house and Rs25,000 allowance has been approved for personnel on duty in the Kactha area. He mentioned that all new police stations will be completed in the current financial year, and border check posts have been strengthened with modern infrastructure and logistics. He said that Punjab Police have transitioned to mobile applications and advanced technologies based on artificial intelligence.
Crackdown on illegal arms under way across Punjab
As part of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s Safe Punjab Vision, a strict crackdown on illegal arms is underway by the Punjab Police across the province. During this special campaign, thousands of dangerous firearms, bullets, and cartridges have been seized this year.
According to the Punjab Police spokesperson, a total of 1,249 Kalashnikovs, 34,647 pistols, 2,705 shotguns, 2,440 rifles, 596 revolvers, and over 252,135 bullets and cartridges have been recovered across the province.
In Lahore alone, 117 Kalashnikovs, 7,148 pistols, 506 rifles, 276 shotguns, and 62 revolvers, along with over 40,000 bullets, were recovered. IG Punjab Dr Usman Anwar has also directed strict legal action against those promoting weapons on social media and engaging in aerial firing. He directed that the process of inspecting licences and stocks of dealers involved in the arms trade should be carried out regularly.
