Project to develop leadership skills among girl students opens

LAHORE:A project aimed at developing leadership skills among female students was inaugurated at Home Economics University, as part of the Strengthening Women Development Centres initiative established in public universities.

The event was attended by US Consul General Kristin Hawkins, Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat, UHE Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Faleeha Zahra Kazmi, faculty members, and students.

The project will train students from four universities, including the University of Home Economics Lahore, to empower female students with essential leadership skills. At the event, Rana Sikandar Hayat highlighted that female students excel in matriculation and intermediate exams and announced that the government would distribute laptops to 40,000 students next month.

He emphasised that Women’s Development Centres in universities were crucial for enhancing the skills of female students. Prof Dr Faleeha Zahra Kazmi noted that UHE was dedicated to developing the professional skills of its students. Through the Women Development Centre, students are provided with internships to help them in gaining practical experience.

US Consul General addressed the audience, stating that the United States was offering scholarships for Master's and PhD programmes to Pakistani students. She emphasised the critical role women play in social development and reiterated the US commitment to supporting women's advancement.
