PARACHINAR: Peace was restored in Kurram tribal district as security forces and police personnel were deployed at key positions after eight days of clashes that left 50 people dead and over 120 injured.
Deputy Commissioner Javedullah Mehsud said that the situation had been brought under control with the cooperation of tribal elders and jirga members in Pewar, Tari Mangal, Kunj Alizai, Muqbal, and Para Chamkani.
The clashes, which erupted due to a dispute over the construction of trenches in the upper parts of Kurram, escalated into widespread violence, claiming the lives of 50 people and injuring 120 others. Both sides used heavy and automatic weapons during the fighting.
Following the ceasefire, white flags were raised, symbolizing peace, as security forces took control of the area. The deputy commissioner said efforts would now focus on ensuring lasting peace in the region.
The main Parachinar-Peshawar highway, along with other routes and educational institutions, still remains closed. However, local tribal leaders, including Jalal Hussain, Syed Tajammul
Hussain from the Turi tribe, and Malik Fakhar Zaman and Saleem Khan from the Bangash tribe, called for efforts to maintain peace. Member National Assembly Hamid Hussain appealed for peace and said violence would lead to further destruction.
