Islamabad : The book launch of Dr Junaid Ahmad’s ‘1971 ethnic cleansing of Biharis in East Pakistanis’ held here at Institute of Regional Studies (IRS). Dr Syed Rifaat Hussain, former Head of Department of Defence and Strategic Studies, Quaid-i-Azam University, chaired the session.
The book was reviewed by Dr Ashfaque Hasan Khan, Director-General, NUST Institute of Policy Studies, Prof. Jawaid Mohsin Malik and Dr Azima Khatoon from International Islamic University.
The reviewers in their detailed comments noted that Indian high ranking officials including former RAW Chief and NSA Ajit Doval have all accepted that India supported, trained and funded the Awami League workers and Mukti Bahini members. Testimonies of hundreds of Bihari and Non-Bengali witnesses to the carnage
in all urban and rural
areas of East Pakistan
was documented in the book.
In addition, newspaper reports from six major dailies from May 1971 to February 1972 were summarised and presented providing a basis for all assertions made in the book, which also contains evidence of involvement
of Indian soldiers in massacre and rape of Bihari and Non-Bengalis in East Pakistan, observed the reviewers.
Dr Junaid Ahmad, shared in his remarks that the government of Hasina Wajid had established a commission of international experts in an
attempt to spread propaganda about alleged killing of Bengalis by the Pak Army.
