‘40,000 laptops to be distributed among students’

LAHORE : Punjab Minister for Higher Education Rana Sikandar Hayat Khan Saturday said such specialised degrees would be introduced according to the needs of the market, after which students will not have to look for recommendations and references for jobs.

He was addressing the 13th convocation organised by Punjab University Hailey College of Banking & Finance (HCBF) at a local hotel. PU VC Prof Dr M Ali, Dean Faculty of Commerce Prof Dr Mubbsher Munawar Khan, HCBF Principal Dr Ahmed Muneeb Mehta, faculty members, students and their parents also attended the convocation. The minister announced that one male and one female best performing students of HCBF will be taken to Dubai at his expense this winter.

He said steps would be taken to create specialised IT universities. He said that the country can’t develop without the development of women.

He said he wants to see the University of the Punjab among the 100 best universities in the world. The minister said the Punjab government will soon give 40,000 laptops to talented students and the Punjab Chief Minister is introducing scholarships programmes for 30,000 students next week. The PU VC said new degree programmes will be introduced to develop skills among students. He promised restoring the glory of the PU. He said it was a strange thing that the software Technology Park was in DG Khan University but not in the PU. In the convocation, degrees were awarded to 350 students of BBA (Hons) (4-year) session 2019-23, two-year BBA (Hons) session 2021-23, MBA session 2021-23 and medals were given to nine position holders.
