PESHAWAR: Qaumi Watan Party (QWP) provincial Chairman Sikandar Hayat Khan Sherpao on Saturday said certain conditions for the IMF loan agreement were detrimental to provincial autonomy and the 18th Amendment.

In a statement, he

flayed the federal government for agreeing to

the tough conditions attached with the IMF loan package.

He explained that the conditions would create a gulf between the Centre and the federating units.

He said this would add to the growing sense of deprivation among the residents of smaller provinces. He further elaborated that slashing the shares of the provinces under the National Finance Commission Award in line with the conditions of the IMF was against the spirit of the Constitution and provincial autonomy.

Criticising the provincial government, Sikandar Sherpao said it did not play its role to protect the rights of the provinces.

The Qaumi Watan

Party leader said the PTI leaders were busy staging protests and demonstrations instead of working to protect the rights of the province.

He said the PTI rulers were least bothered to take up with the Centre the issues of the province. He maintained that smaller provinces were already facing financial problems and slashing the shares of

the federating units would further deepen the sense of despondency among the people.
