Lamenting the civic issues of Karachi, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has stated that despite being a coastal metropolitan city, Karachi has been facing severe water and electricity problems for the past many years.
He made this statement while speaking as the chief guest at a Milad event in DHA on Friday night hosted by philanthropist Chamdia brothers.
Tessori said power loadshedding had been continuing in the city for the past 20 years. He added that the patients at the hospitals did not get an uninterrupted electric supply whereas the elite class had the resources to run generators to energise their homes in case of a power failure.
He said it was high time that the elite class fully own the problems of common people to initiate a sincere effort to resolve them.
The governor told the audience that the politicians in the country did not have the will and commitment to resolve these fundamental problems of the people.
He said most of the politicians kept on changing their ideologies and loyalties to fulfil their vested interests instead of serving the masses.
He urged the people to wage a unified struggle to resolve their basic problems.
He opined that the privatisation of public sector enterprises like the Pakistan International Airlines did not merit any celebration in the country as it was an act of selling national assets due to the bad shape of the economy.
He said the national economy had been in a shambles due to squandering or mortgaging such precious public assets one after another.
Tessori expressed sorrow over the fact that the government had no option but to constantly seek financial support from the international community amid the devaluation of the currency.
He said Pakistan’s economic sovereignty had been compromised due to financial bailout packages constantly obtained from the International Monetary Fund.
He said the people should not keep silent on such important national issues.
The governor also appreciated the plan of the non-profit Saylani Welfare International Trust to boost the software exports of Pakistan to $100 billion annually in next 10 years to help Pakistan retire its foreign debts.
Letter to UN
Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori has written a letter to the secretaries general of the United Nations and the Organisation of Islamic Conference, via the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad, on the issue of the martyrdom of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in Lebanon at the hands of
Israel.
In his letter, the governor urged the UNO and the OIC to use their lobbies to prevent Israel from perpetrating further terrorism. Tessori mentioned that he was saddened to hear the news of the martyrdom of the Hezbollah chief whose targeting by Israel was a sorrowful incident.
He recalled that earlier Israel had targeted Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran. He regretted that constant Israeli brazen aggression and attacks had resulted in 40,000 innocent Palestinians losing their lives in the Gaza Strip. He said the innocent children, women, and senior citizens were among the martyred Palestinians.
The governor said Israel in the latest move had violated the sovereignty of its neighbouring state of Lebanon. He appealed to the international com
munity to play its role in preventing Israel from committing terrorism.
He said it was high time the OIC being the representative body of the global
Islamic Ummah played its role in the present sorrowful situation against Palestinians.
Tessori said all the member nations of the UN should stand united and launch a unified move against Israeli aggression.
