The constitutional amendment bill presented by the government has become a serious source of controversy. According to reports, it contains more than 50 proposals, including the formation of a constitutional court and raising the retirement age of judges. The opposition is trying hard to delay it and the government requires a 2/3 majority to get the bill through parliament. The proposed amendments could weaken the independence of the judiciary and exacerbate political instability.
