Sean "Diddy" Combs may be considering testifying in his sex trafficking and racketeering case, according to his lawyer.
However, a different attorney has cautioned that this bold move could lead to unfavourable consequences for the rapper.
Page Six reported on Friday, September 27, that Meesha Moulton from the Meesha Moulton Law Firm advised the music mogul to withdraw his decision to set the record straight by testifying in the upcoming trial.
"There’s a reason attorneys typically advise their clients not to take the stand in their own trial—testifying opens the defendant to cross-examination from the prosecution," she explained to the news outlet.
The award-winning Las Vegas-based attorney described the cross-examination process as "mentally gruelling."
"This process will be relentless in trying to find inconsistencies in his statements and getting him to admit to things that could be damaging," she continued. "If Diddy becomes flustered or frustrated, taking the stand could do more harm than good."
Moulton emphasised that "this level of scrutiny is very emotionally taxing," noting that if he struggles to maintain composure under pressure, it could negatively affect the jury's perception of him. She referred to the decision as the "biggest challenge" and strongly advised against it.
For context, Combs’ attorney, Marc Agnifilo, told TMZ in an interview for their new documentary, The Downfall of Diddy: The Indictment, that the 54-year-old artist is "very eager to tell his story" in court.
