ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Lieutenant General Muhammad Ali as defence secretary upon the latter’s retirement. The notification for the appointment has also been issued by the Establishment Division. According to the announcement, the new defence secretary has been appointed for a period of two years and three months upon his retirement with effect from October 1, 2024. He retires on Sept 30, 2024.

A statement from the Establishment Division said that Lt Gen Muhammad Ali will continue as secretary till December 31, 2026.

According to notifications issued by the Establishment Division, Ali Asghar, Senior Joint Secretary, Ministry of Information Technology and Secretariat Group Grade 21 Officer, has been transferred and posted as Director General, National Commission for Human Development, Secretariat Group and posting on deputation is effective till his retirement on 18 July 2027. Joint Secretary Establishment Division and Pakistan Administrative Service BPS 20 officer Waqas Alam has been transferred and posted as General Manager, Pakistan Agriculture Storage and Services Corporation (PASCO), while Police Service Grade 18 officer Lt. (R) Kamran Amir Khan posted in FIA has been transferred and his services have been given to Punjab government and OSD Establishment Division Muhammad Ali Shehzad Muzaffar has been appointed as Deputy Secretary Finance Division.
