DIG, SSPs among police officers named in Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar’s staged shootout murder case

HYDERABAD: A case has been registered at the Sindhri police station against several personnel of the Mirpurkhas police on charges of negligence of duty and involvement in the killing of blasphemy suspect Dr Shahnawaz Kunbhar in a staged encounter.

Those nominated in the case include suspended DIG Javed Jaskani, former Mirpurkhas SSP Asad Ali Chaudhry, former Umerkot SSP Asif Baloch, Mirpurkhas CIA incharge Inayat Ali Zardari, Sindhi SHO Niaz Khoso and DIB incharge Danish Bhatti. Umar Jan Sarhandi, Molvi Ahmed Sahani, and Riaz panhwar have also been included in the case.

The FIR has been registered under murder and terrorism charges at the Sindhri police station on the complaint of Advocate Ibrahim Kunbhar, a relative of the deceased.

Dr Kunbhar was a senior medical officer (BS-18) at the Umerkot District Headquarters Hospital and he was nominated as accused in a blasphemy case registered at Umerkot taluka police station. He was killed in a staged police encounter in the Sindhri police station limits on September 19.

After notice of the gruesome murder was taken by the chief minister and the home minister, an inquiry committee was formed, and its findings showed Dr Kunbhar became a victim of extrajudicial murder. At this, the home minister ordered filing an FIR against the police officials and other suspects.
