Youth plant thousands of saplings in Mohmand district

PESHAWAR: The youth of Mohmand district have emerged as key contributors to the Billion Tree Plus initiative, led by Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mahsud.

Under the banner of the Asghar Mohmand Foundation, they have planted thousands of saplings in remote areas across all tehsils of Mohmand, despite facing challenging conditions. In recognition of their efforts, the commissioner expanded the campaign to the remaining districts of Peshawar division — Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Khyber.

Riaz Khan Mahsud has issued instructions to the Department of Forestry to provide a large supply of saplings to the Asghar Mohmand Foundation.Additionally, he has directed the deputy commissioners of Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, and Khyber to extend full logistical support to the campaign.

The decision followed a meeting at the Commissioner’s office with a delegation from the Asghar Mohmand Foundation, led by its Chairman, Asghar Mohmand.Executive members Imtiaz Khan, Sajjad Ahmed, Zahoor Ahmed, and others were also present.

During the meeting, the delegation briefed the commissioner on its activities in Mohmand, where they successfully engaged local communities, school students, and madrasa students in the tree-planting initiative.

A public awareness campaign, which gained appreciation on social media, further boosted the project’s visibility and impact.The commissioner praised the efforts of the foundation and the youth of Mohmand, noting that their work serves as a model for others in the region.

“The success of the Billion Tree Plus initiative is crucial for addressing climate change, and it is heartening to see young people taking an active role in this campaign,” Riaz Mahsud stated.He pledged continued support for the initiative, highlighting the need for sustained efforts in environmental conservation.In recognition of their contributions, the commissioner presented a shield to Asghar Mohmand and awarded certificates of appreciation to the foundation’s executive members
