Social media has empowered billions globally, promoting democratic values and free expression. However, it also perpetuates misinformation, disinformation, and propaganda, particularly in Pakistan, where powerful entities face scathing criticism. Pakistan must uphold rule of law and protect citizens from extremism and digital terrorism. The state must be clear about its stance and prioritize the constitution and law over mob rule. Only then can Pakistan progress towards a peaceful and progressive society for all. Effective measures include promoting critical thinking, digital literacy, regulating social media, and ensuring accountability in law-enforcement agencies.
