ISLAMABAD: Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Hafiz Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has said that Islam does not allow anyone to be punished without fulfilling the requirements of justice.

Talking about the murder of Dr Shahnawaz in Umarkot in Sindh, Tahir Ashrafi said that a thorough investigation should be conducted about the murder of Dr Shahnawaz. “It is the duty of the court and the state to punish the perpetrators of blasphemy,” he said on Thursday.

He also noted, “Unfortunately, delays have become an identity in the decisions of the cases of blasphemy, due to which many problems arise. If the courts give timely judgements in blasphemy cases, no innocent will be victimised, and no sinner will escape the punishment.”

Ashrafi said that action should be taken as per law against the police officers and their subordinates involved in a fake encounter, which resulted in the death of Dr Shahnawaz.
