HYDERABAD: Twenty-nine people, including 23 children, were taken to the Civil Hospital Hyderabad from Khurshid Town’s Hala Naka area after they faced difficulty breathing due to exposure to chlorine gas emissions.
Doctors said the children are aged between four and 12 years. According to a statement issued by the district government, children from Adho Jatoi village were returning home from their school when they were exposed to the gas emissions from a cylinder, which was kept at the Hala Naka filtration plant.
After the incident, Mayor Kashif Shoro reached the Civil Hospital to inquire after the health of the children. Medical Superintendent Kashif Memon and doctors on duty briefed the mayor about providing medical facilities and care to the
children.
According to Mayor Shoro, due to the leakage of chlorine gas, the children had difficulty breathing.
Firefighters controlled the gas leakage by spraying water on the cylinder. The district administration said rescue and filtration plant staff removed the cylinder and cleared the area.
