May 9 violence case: ATC directs defendants to record statements on Oct 1

PESHAWAR The Special Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) after recording statements of all the prosecution witnesses in the May 9 case, on Thursday ordered the accused to record statements on October 1, the date of the next hearing.

The prosecution witnesses appeared before ATC Judge Muhammad Iqbal and recorded their statements.According to the prosecution, the enraged protesters caused damage to the VIP gate of the Balahisar Fort, Government Frontier College for Women, and private banks during a protest. One civilian also lost their life during the incident.

Following this, Khan Raziq Shaheed Police Station registered a terrorism case against the protesters, including lawmakers Fazal Elahi, Muhammad Asif, provincial Minister Meena Khan, former provincial ministers Kamran Bangash, Taimur Saleem Jhagra, former deputy speaker Mahmood Khan, and several other PTI workers.

After completing the investigation, the charge sheet was submitted to the court, which initiated the trial against the accused.With the prosecution witnesses’ statements recorded, the hearing was adjourned until October 1 to record the statements of the defendants.
